From the same thread:
Q: Will the game shut down in x months?
A: There is no estimated timeplan for this. The intention is to let the game keep running for as long as possible. There are some fixed costs related to the operations, such as server costs etc, and as long as the income covers all that, we see no reason to terminate the game unless we run into some unforeseen technical issue which is beyond repair.
So to sum this very important question up. You will be able to continue playing the game, role playing, interacting with friends and loved ones. The main difference being that we wonāt be able to add new features for you to play with.
Q: When/if that day comes, will we players get some kind of heads up?
A: If that day comes and itās due to a financial question, then yes. If the game would go offline due to technical issues that canāt be repaired in a timely manner (remember, we developers will have other day jobs) it all depends on the nature of the problem and how complicated it might be to fix.
Q: Canāt you just sell the game?
A: In theory yes, but itās not that simple. The game has been built for almost two decades with (in parts) ancient technology. Weāre not ruling anything out of course, and a potential buyer with the required skills and knowledge could be interesting to hear out. However, and we canāt stress this enough, it takes a multitude of skill sets, and an extreme amount of technical knowhow to keep a game like this online. Anyone with any experience of running an online multiplayer game can attest to this.
We also feel a great responsibility when it comes to handling your personal data and roleplaying history. Selling all that player data to a third party we donāt know seems really, really wrong somehow. The last thing we want to see is your messages and blogs misused someplace online.
Q: Why donāt you advertise the game and bring in more players?
A: We have tried different ways to find new players over the years. The major obstacle is to actually keep new players rather than finding new ones. The game is intentionally slow, and this isnāt suitable for everyone. 20 years ago this appealed more to people than it does today, and in order to compete with fast paced mobile games today, the game itself would have to be something completely different in order to reach the masses.
Q: Is Billy-Bob fine?
A: Yes, heās perfectly fine. Heās already busy working elsewhere.
